As part of an Erasmus+ mobility programme hosted by UNIPLURAL ACADEMY MALTA in collaboration with Training to Malta, a group of Hungarian trainees from the hospitality VET sector recently enjoyed an enriching learning experience in Malta through a hands-on culinary workshop dedicated to traditional confectionery.
Held in a fully equipped professional training kitchen generously sponsored by Dove and Olive Restaurant Malta, the session provided participants with an authentic industry-based learning experience.
The trainees were first introduced to the preparation of Prinjolata, one of Malta’s most iconic festive sweets. Through a live demonstration, they learned about the history, ingredients, and techniques involved in creating this Maltese dessert.Following the demonstration, the students had the opportunity to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice by preparing their own Prinjolata.
The activity then evolved into a unique cultural exchange, as the Hungarian trainees also prepared a traditional sweet from their own country the Plum Jam Pastry, sharing their culinary heritage with their Maltese hosts. This exchange of traditions provided valuable insights into the role that food and hospitality play in preserving cultural identity while fostering international understanding.
Working together in a professional training kitchen environment allowed the trainees to experience industry standards while celebrating the rich culinary traditions of both Malta and Hungary.
The mobility programme concluded with a visit to Uniplural Academy, where participants were given a guided tour of the campus and its facilities. The visit was followed by an engaging discussion session involving both students and teachers. During this exchange, participants shared good practices and innovative approaches to hospitality training. The final ceremony marked the successful completion of the mobility experience, with certificates presented to all participating trainees.
This Erasmus+ mobility once again demonstrated the value of international cooperation in vocational education that will support future careers in the hospitality sector. The successful collaboration between Uniplural Academy and Dove and Olive Restaurant Malta further showcased the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and industry stakeholders in delivering high-quality vocational learning experiences.
